About the Author


Gary L. Packer was born in 1950 and raised in Brigham City , Utah .  His father was an auto mechanic in a family business and his mother a full-time homemaker and mother of six children.


He started part-time work at the age of 8 and was constantly employed until university as a housekeeper, grounds keeper, custodian, service station attendant, drug store clerk, disc jockey, librarian, and accounting clerk.


Brother Packer served a mission in France and Belgium in 1969-1971 and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1973 with BA and BS degrees in Business Administration with minors in Economics, accounting, statistics (composite), French and Music.


Gary , an oboist married Paula Pearson, a violinist of Orem Utah in 1971.  They met as charter members of the Mormon Youth Symphony.  They have 5 children.


He was employed as a bank officer and branch manager for First Security Bank of Utah N.A. 1973-1978 then was owner, president, manager of Hillam Abstracting and Insurance Agency from 1978 to 1990.  The family had a country home in Honeyville , Utah from 1976 to 1991.


From 1991 to 1994 the Packer family lived in Frankfurt Germany where Gary was employed by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as its real estate representative in the Europe area where he was instrumental in preparing dozens of mission facilities for the new central and eastern missions as well as overseeing the real estate for Germanic and Slavic Europe.


Since returning from Europe , Packer has been employed by First American Title Company of Utah currently a Senior Escrow and Title Officer.


Brother Packer's interest in household finances began as he counseled bank clients in consumer, commercial, and mortgage loans.  He lectured and taught various church groups and was the stake family financial consultant for 13 years.  Gary served as a bishop’s counselor, a high counselor in Germany and Utah , and was Honeyville First Ward Bishop.
